Discover the Winery: Domaine Vincent Dampt

Vincent Dampt comes from a long lineage of winemakers, his father is Daniel Dampt and grandfather is Jean Defaix, both admired Chablis producers who own highly regarded estates in the region. Respectful of family traditions, Vincent is nonetheless determined to build his own reputation and is considered one of Chablis' up and coming stars. Mild-mannered on the surface, Vincent is fiercely passionate about wine and the Chablis terroir, yet open to new ideas and methods in his pursuit of quality. Vincent grew up in the world of wine and decided to follow the family tradition when he was just 14 by enrolling himself in wine school in Beaune. He trained in the Jura and with Leflaive in Puligny–Montrachet before heading overseas to New Zealand’s Marlborough region. In 2002 Vincent began working with his father as winemaker, and in 2004 he inherited a few small plots of vineyards, enabling him to create his own estate. Now in his second decade of winemaking, Vincent owns two hectares of prime Chablis and Chablis 1er Cru vineyards around the village of Milly, some with 55 year-old vines. Styled to give pleasure, Vincent Dampt’s steely, mineral wines are classic Chablis with the classic crushed shell profile of the appellation.
